We
seek to ground our counselors in the fundamentals of contemporary
psychodynamic approaches (including Self Psychology,
Object Relations and Intersubjectivity) and at the same time honor
the spiritual dimension of healing by offering trainings
on transpersonal approaches. This integral approach is very effective
in dealing with issues such as relationship difficulty, depression
and anxiety, grief and loss, eating disorders and addiction recovery,
and issues stemming from emotional, physical and sexual abuse.
While
we offer brief, solution-focused modalities for individual and
couples, we are structured to support long-term treatment whenever
appropriate. Many of our interns remain at the Marina until they
gain licensure and then move into private practice. Therefore,
clients frequently have the opportunity to deepen into a long-term,
uninterrupted therapy with their counselor. Marina counselors
are encouraged to discover their own authentic "voice"
as a helping professional and many develop practice specialties
including expressive arts therapy, EMDR, Jungian sandtray, Narrative
therapy and Control-Mastery therapy.
Counselors
meet with clients on weekdays, evenings, and weekends. The directors
and staff of the Marina are happy to answer question and speak
with you about the appropriateness of referrals. Hannah Milan
Gottsegen, M.F.T., is the Clinical Director of the Center, Syntha
Lorenz, M.F.T., is the Program Director, and Daniel Gottsegen,
Ph.D. is the Assistant Clinical Director.
